How I advanced my Administration career
If you want to get ahead in your administration career, the right course could help. Discover how enrolling in a Diploma in Business Administration has helped Matilda Ratanavong open doors to better job prospects. All she needed to get started was the right course and a little motivation!
What inspired you?
My job was my inspiration. I am a Personal Assistant (PA) at the Breast Cancer Institute presently, but I wanted a qualification that would allow me to further my career in the organisation.
I didn't want to be 50 years old and stuck in the same position. I also wanted to have a qualification on paper that I could use in the future.
What would you like to achieve?
I would like to further myself in my current position. For example, if my bosses were to open up their own practice, I would like to become an Executive Assistant there instead of a PA.
How did you decide on the right course for you?
I sent in a course enquiry through the SEEK Learning website and received a call from Rodney, one of the Learning Consultants.
I originally wanted to do the Certificate IV in Business Administration, but he suggested I do the Diploma instead, as I already had the experience required. He made it easier to decide on the right course, once he had outlined everything that was involved in both the certificate and diploma courses and sent me all the info I needed.
SEEK Learning provided me with information I was not able to get anywhere else. It helped me identify the training I needed to assist me in the future.
What was your biggest concern about taking on further study?
No time to study, as I was working full-time with 12-hour days. I barely have enough time to do normal everyday activities and when I do have time on my one day off, I try to cram everything in that I can.
How did you overcome those concerns?
I changed my work hours, which allowed me to finish at 5pm one day a week to do my studies, as well as a day off.
What would be your advice for someone wanting to take further study?
I think people should learn as much as they can if they want to further their career. Once I've finished my Diploma, I will be looking into a pay rise or a promotion within my company.
