Graduate With Two Qualifications

The holistic combination of nutritional medicine and herbal medicine makes for a powerfully effective medical discipline. Especially when backed by the objective empiricism of science.

The Advanced Diploma of Nutritional & Herbal Medicine is actually a combination of two courses, and you'll graduate with two nationally recognised qualifications: an Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine and an Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine.

You'll complete your studies over a manageable two-year, full-time period, and graduate job-ready, after 580 hours of practical clinical training.

In this nutritional and herbal medicine course, you'll learn:

  • the science of healthy eating, including the metabolic pathways involved in the breakdown of ingested nutrients
  • how disease may be prevented through diet and vitamin, mineral and amino acid supplements
  • nutritional management in renal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, endocrine and immune disorders, as well as in palliative care, pregnancy and paediatrics
  • diagnostic laboratory techniques, iridology, additional symptomatology and counselling
  • the history of herbal medicine
  • the principles of plant identification, as well as herb manufacturing, preparation and prescription
  • the individual chemical properties of each plant, their biochemical and physiological effects, and their absorption, mechanism of action and distribution within the body
  • toxicology and drug interaction; investigating any adverse effects that may be found in herbal drug administration and their interaction with synthetic drugs

In addition there is an emphasis on many science subjects ensuring the scientific foundation of clinical practice. These subjects include chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, pathology and symptomatology.
