Learn the Profession of Art

The Bachelor of Arts (Art) enables students to explore some of the major influences on contemporary art practices and benefit from both practical and theoretical studies in Art.

You use innovative Internet technologies to learn about digital imaging and electronic art.

Graduates find employment in a wide range of fields, especially where initiative, creative thinking and critical awareness are valued.

Many graduates rise to prominence as individual or collaborative professional art practitioners, while others are employed as art curators, exhibition coordinators and arts administrators in both public and private organisations.

You could also build a career in cultural policy development, cultural industries, public relations and tourism.

  • Printmaking: Material and Conceptual Investigation
  • Textiles: Material and Conceptual Investigation
  • Sculpture: Material and Conceptual Investigation
  • Painting: Material and Conceptual
  • Visual Arts Research: Introduction to Drawing
  • Visual Arts Research: Drawing and Ideas
  • Culture and Society: Introduction to Cultural Studies
Level 2 Units

Complete four units in either Painting or Sculpture

  • Painting - Observation and Perception
  • Painting - Subject and Methodology
  • Painting - Themes: Interpretation
  • Painting - Themes: Perception and Intervention

OR

  • Objects and Ideas - Construction and Deconstruction
  • Objects and Ideas - Installation
  • Objects and Ideas - The Model: Dimensionality and Space
  • Objects and Ideas - Multiples: Objects and Space

Electives

In addition to the units above, you will also need to complete 4 electives.

Complete any two units from this list:

  • Architecture and Culture: Histories and Illusion, Power and Imagination, 16th to 19th Century
  • Australian Art History
  • Art in the Age of Revolution
  • Modernism and the Visual Arts
  • Art and Fashion in the 20th Century

Plus complete two units in either one of these streams:
Textiles:

  • Visual Arts Research: Textiles: Structure and Dyeing
  • Visual Arts Research: Textiles: Decoration & Ornamentation

Drawing:

  • Visual Research: Experimental Drawing 1
  • Visual Research: Experimental Drawing 2
Level 3 Units

  • Independent Art Practice: Negotiated Proposal
  • Independent Art Practice: Exploration
  • Independent Art Practice: Development
  • Independent Art Practice: Resolution and Presentation
  • Visual Arts Research: Independent Art Practice A
