Child Care Course: Certificate III in Children's Services

Who is This Child Care Course for?

Make a positive and meaningful impact upon children's lives with the Certificate III in Children's Services. With the practical training you'll receive during this course, you can look forward to a rewarding career as a childcare assistant, a family day carer or nanny.

This TAFE child care course is especially designed for those who are working or intending to work within the children's services industry. It provides a useful introduction into understanding, caring for and supporting the development of young children.

Please note that due to legislative requirements, you need to be at least 18 years of age to gain employment in the child services industry.

Child Care Course Requirements

A Prohibited Employment Declaration must be signed by students in courses where contact will be made with children. SEEK Learning will provide you with this form when you enrol.

As part of the course assessment, you'll need to arrange work placement for a total of 100 hours. This placement will need to be pre-approved by OTEN.

You must also complete a Senior First Aid certificate in order to receive the Certificate III in Children's Services.

Course Units

There are 14 units to be completed in this child care course. Support the development of children Interact effectively with children Provide experiences to support children's play and learning Develop an understanding of children's interests and developmental needs Ensure the health and safety of the children Contribute to OHS processes Provide care for babies Provide care for children Work with in a relevant legal and ethical framework Identify and respond to children and young people at risk Participate in the work environment Contribute to provision of nutritionally balanced food in a safe and hygienic manner Work effectively with families to care for the child Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) families to participate in children's services Please note that you will need to complete Apply First Aid (a Senior First Aid certificate) in order to receive the Certificate III in Children's Services qualification. This can be completed through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such as St John Ambulance or Australian Red Cross, at your own expense.
