What's it like to be a Childcare Centre Manager?
Childcare Centre Managers plan and implement educational activities and programs to develop young children. They usually supervise a team of Childcare Workers and Educators to provide before and after school, day and vacation care to young children. They play an active role in discussions and are the main point of contact with parents and families.
Tasks and duties
- Recruiting, organising and supervising childcare staff.
- Ensuring the safety of children, staff and visitors in the centre.
- Communicating with parents and caregivers.
- Maintaining records for the centre.
- Managing the finances, supplies and accounts for the centre.
- Ensuring the centre complies with government requirements.
- Planning and implementing programs and activities to develop the physical, social, emotional and educational needs of young children.
Childcare Centre Managers are also responsible for the day to day running of the centre including administration, marketing and resourcing.

The minimum education requirement for becoming a Childcare Centre Manager is a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121).
- 1.Complete a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121), which will provide the knowledge and skill needed to prepare for work in a childcare centre as a Childcare Centre Manager or Early Childhood Educator.
- 2.Consider undertaking a bachelor degree to progress towards a role as an Early Childhood Teacher. This could be a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood/Primary).
