  1. SISFFIT305A - Apply anatomy & physiology principles in a fitness context


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply an understanding of the human body structure, systems and terminology as they relate to exercise instruction. It applies to fitness professionals who may operate with some level of autonomy or under limited supervision and incorporates the self-directed application of knowledge and skills.

  2. SISFFIT301A - Provide fitness orientation & health screening


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify clients' general fitness requirements through the use of a screening form, and advise clients on appropriate fitness facilities and services.

  3. SISFFIT307A - Undertake client health assessment


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to review client screening information, discuss fitness goals with a client, and conduct a basic fitness appraisal in preparation for developing an exercise program.

  4. SISFFIT306A - Provide healthy eating information to clients in accordance with recommended guidelines


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake a risk-management process in relation to an activity in accordance with an organisation's risk-management policies and procedures. In this context, the risk-analysis process is conducted using structured analysis methodology according to the current Australian and New Zealand standard.

  5. SISFFIT303A - Develop & apply an awareness of specific populations to exercise delivery


    This unit covers the skills and knowledge to provide appropriate advice to specific population clients when conducting fitness appraisals and suggesting fitness activities. It covers the pathology of the more common disease states and conditions encountered within the fitness industry, and the limiting effects a condition has on exercise performance and functional capacity.

  6. SISFFIT308A - Plan & deliver gym programs


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan, demonstrate, supervise and monitor a range of gym programs customised for clients with specific fitness requirements, as well as responding appropriately to the changing needs of clients.

  7. SISFFIT304A - Instruct & monitor fitness programs


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop, instruct, supervise and evaluate fitness programs for a range of fitness clients, including older adults and older adolescents.

  8. SISFFIT312A - Plan & deliver an endurance training program


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan and deliver indoor and outdoor endurance training programs for a range of clients, utilising a broad range of equipment as well as motivational and instructional techniques.

  9. SISFFIT302A - Provide quality service in the fitness industry


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, interpersonal, communication and customer service skills and knowledge required to work in the fitness industry. It requires the ability to use appropriate communication techniques, maintain high personal presentation standards, establish rapport with clients, determine and address client needs and expectations, and deal with complaints.

  10. SISXIND101A - Work effectively in sport & recreation environments


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a sport and recreation environment. The unit focuses on the application of industry knowledge and organisational work practices to support the completion of day-to-day work activities.

  11. SISXFAC207 - Maintain sport, fitness & recreation equipment for activities


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake routine maintenance and minor repairs on sport, fitness and recreation equipment.

  12. BSBSMB306 - Plan a home-based business


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to employ useful strategies to set up a business from home. It applies to individuals who are establishing or operating a micro business for self-employment.

  13. SISXOHS101A - Follow occupational health & safety policies


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply general Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements in the workplace. It describes generic OHS responsibilities applicable to employees without managerial or supervisory responsibilities.

  14. SISXRSK301A - Undertake risk analysis of activities


    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake a risk-analysis process in relation to an activity and in accordance with an organisation’s risk-management policies and procedures. In this context, the risk-analysis process is conducted using structured analysis methodology according to the current Australian and New Zealand Standard.

  15. HLTAID003 - Provide first aid


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Please note that this unit needs to be completed with an external provider.

First aid requirement:
This course requires you to complete a first aid course. You will need to organise to complete this training through an RTO such as St Johns Ambulance or Australian Red Cross.

Support and delivery

You study part of this course online, and complete the practical component in a real gym with a qualified personal trainer.

  • Choose an experienced Personal Trainer to mentor you through the practical parts of the course - your mentor must be approved by the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers. 
  • 15 hours of practical experience with your mentor in a real gym.

  • 15 units to complete online at your own pace.

2. Get paired with a mentor

  • Australian Institute of Personal Trainers will pair you up with a mentor who is a Personal Trainer – there are over 150 across Australia.
  • 15 hours of practical experience with your mentor in a real gym.
  • Gain hands-on experience and observe real personal training sessions with clients.
  • 15 units to complete online at your own pace.
  • Start anytime.

Support

  • Technical Advisors and Specialists provide one-on-one coaching sessions over the phone or Skype. They’re industry experts who will support you to complete each unit of the course. You can contact them 8am–6:30pm on weekdays.
  • Australian Institute of Personal Trainers have a Support Plan for each student, which ensures you’re contacted regularly and progressing through the course.
  • The team of Student Support Officers are dedicated to helping you graduate and will help you find a solution to any hurdles you’re facing.
  • You will receive a Study Plan that shows how long each unit will take to complete – a great tool to help you stay on track and plan your breaks from study.
