  1. HLTDEN003 - Assist with administration in dental practice


    This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for a dental assistant to assist the operator by managing appointments to suit the patient and the organisation, recording and reconciling payments, and maintaining patient records.

  2. HLTDEN002 - Assist with dental radiography


    This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for a dental assistant to prepare patients for dental radiography. It also describes the skills and knowledge to process and mount conventional dental radiographs.

  3. CHCCOM005 - Communicate & work in health or community services


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers.

  4. HLTINF001 - Comply with infection prevention & control policies and procedures


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational infection prevention and control procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks.

  5. BSBFLM303 - Contribute to effective workplace relationships


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to gather information and maintain effective relationships and networks, with particular regard to communication and representation.

  6. HLTWHS001 - Participate in workplace health & safety


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others.

  7. HLTDEN001 - Prepare for & assist with oral health care procedures


    This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for a dental assistant to assist the operator by preparing the dental surgery including preparing necessary equipment, instruments and materials for oral health care procedures, and to assist the operator during the delivery of these procedures.

  8. HLTINF002 - Process reusable medical devices & equipment


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to clean, sterilise and package reusable medical devices and equipment.

  9. BSBWOR204 - Use business technology


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to select and use computer software and organise electronic information and data.

  10. CHCDIV001 - Work with diverse people


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

  11. HLTFA311A - Apply first aid*


    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

    NOTE: The unit HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid must be completed in a face-to-face environment and students are required to arrange to undertake this unit with a local training organisation. Students are responsible for arranging and paying for completion of this unit.

    This unit can be completed at any time during the course but must be obtained prior to course completion to receive the qualification.

First aid requirement:
This course requires you to complete a first aid course. This is not available through OTEN so you will need to organise to complete this training through an agency such as St Johns Ambulance or Australian Red Cross.
